My New Favorite Room: The Nursery

We have felt so blessed by family and friends as we get closer to our baby boy's arrival. The only piece of furniture in our nursery we have paid for ourselves is the changing table, which was a gift from my husband on my birthday. So once I got all the furniture for the nursery, I had to start decorating!

When we decided to start trying to extend our family I was finishing my last semester of school at BYU-Idaho, taking the Homemaking class. For the Interior Design part of the class we had to design and decorate a bedroom, and we got to pick any type of bedroom. Since I was on baby mindset I decided to do the nursery. This ended up distracting me for hours at a time. I just couldn't pick one theme I loved. Then I found one picture on pinterest of a more gender neutral room, light gray with white and baby blue/pink. So ever since then that has been the plan! Here are some pictures of my almost completed nursery!

I love the decor I have been able to put together. I was able to do this for under $20. I bought the frames from Deseret Industries (thrift shop) and painted them white, the pictures are from my maternity session and only cost a couple dollars to print, the "I Am a Child of God" was a gift from my amazing sister-in-law Lyndsay, and the "ABC's" and "Little Guy" printables were ideas I found on pinterest and my awesome friend Sara Hill made them for me.

This chair used to be my moms, and my parents gave it to me and we are in the middle of updating it. So far we have painted it, now I need to figure out how to reupholster the fabric to be gray like the lamp on the side table. More about that in a future blog post!

I love my organized closet!

Bookshelf I have from my bedroom growing up, still working on getting more books!

The "Welcome Baby Dewey" sign was made by my sister, Brittany, for my baby shower in Washington. I'm going to use it for the decor above the crib until we name him and I can do another craft project with his name.

And that's the nursery! I love to just sit in there and get overwhelmed with nerves! I'm also excited to add more and do more to decorate. To see some of the inspiration I had for decorating our nursery you can look at my Nursery board on Pinterest.

This is the baby's part of our bedroom. The bassinet with his little stuffed animal from my mom, and supplies for diapers and swaddling him at night.

Today also marks exactly 2 weeks until the due date! I'm 38 weeks pregnant, full-term. So that means I had my last day of work today. It was bittersweet. Although it didn't pay well, I loved my job at the Middle School here in Rexburg. I got to run a new lunch program called Wise Cats, giving me the opportunity to help any students that needed my help, and I got to work with the gifted 5th grade class, I learned so much from them! And they were so sweet to give me a little baby gift on my last day. Here's to relaxing until my sweet little boy decides it's time to leave the womb and join the world!

Feeling Beautiful in Pregnancy

Feeling beautiful can sometimes be hard when you are in the third trimester of your pregnancy. You are constantly gaining weight, on top of the weight you have already gained, you find new stretch marks weekly, and you constantly feel uncomfortable-like you can't function like a normal person uncomfortable.

Saying this, I don't want anyone thinking I'm not excited for our little boy to join us. I am THRILLED! But lately I have really felt pregnant. Especially starting as someone who has never struggled with feeling "big". This is where people tell me I can't complain, or that it is just because I'm pregnant. I know this! But I still feel big, and not quite as pretty as I did before, although my wonderful husband is constantly doing his best to make me feel beautiful.

So when I decided to model for a maternity workshop while visiting home, I seriously considered how I felt about it. Not only would I be taking pictures with one photographer, but she would be teaching other photographers who would also be taking pictures of me! That is a lot to consider.

I found out about the opportunity because I follow Jennifer Wilcox Photography on Facebook, she happens to be someone I have known for almost 10 years because she is a member of my church back at home, and I babysat for her! She announced they needed some models for a workshop she was hosting in Puyallup, Washington the day after my sisters wedding, when I happened to be in town! So they picked me to model and it was a great experience. Not only did I learn a lot from modeling as they were teaching one another, but they made me feel beautiful.

Throughout the session they were complimenting me on how great I look. Luckily I was only 31 weeks pregnant at the time, usually you are a few weeks farther ahead when you take maternity pictures, so I wasn't swollen and I had a few less stretch marks than I do now. The instructor was Briony, from Briony Hope Photography, an instructor from Colorado who is experienced with maternity photography. She did a great job of making me feel comfortable and beautiful throughout the session. I hadn't felt that beautiful in so long!

As you can see I wasn't completely covered for most of the pictures. The point of maternity pictures is to show the baby bump and the beauty of motherhood. And these photographers do such a wonderful job of doing so! So here are a few of my favorites from both Jennifer and Briony.
(I never took any pictures where my privates weren't covered, for anyone worried about what pictures they might see)

Today is also my 37 week mark, which according to my pregnancy apps means I am full term! Which is insane! I don't feel like we will actually be parents sometime in the next few weeks. We are excited but it is weird to think about. I'm also finishing my job right now, only a few days left then I'll just relax until he joins our family!

One Month Until D-Day

How far along: 35 weeks - almost at the 9 months mark!

Baby size: About 18.2 inches and almost 5.5 pounds, so about the size of a honeydew melon (according to my "I'm Expecting" App).

Weight gain: 28 pounds

Maternity clothes: Basically all I can fit into, and sweats.

Stretch marks: Yes...

Sleep: I struggle falling asleep and staying asleep anytime after 5 AM. But most of the time I get enough sleep to not feel deprived.

GenderBoy!

Movement: Still constant. Apparently he favors my right side, especially in my ribs.

Best moment this week: Watching him move around in my belly, for ten minutes at a time. I also bought some cheap frames from DI and painted them white to get started on the nursery decor this week, I love finishing putting the room together!

Looking forward to: Making one more run to Target to get last minute things to prepare the nursery and get stuff for the hospital.

Food cravings: All food. I'm constantly hungry. Even after I eat!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope.

What I miss: Comfort - he has taken over my body!

Symptoms: Still getting Braxton Hicks contractions, and my belly aches sometimes, especially after I walk to work. I bought a belly band to help with these aches, so hopefully it will come in the mail this week. I also have a lot of the other standard symptoms, but they aren't as often.

Belly button in or out? Uh, what belly button? Out.

Wedding rings on or off? On. Still not swollen!

Mood: SO nervous! I can't believe it's less than a month until our due date. My whole pregnancy has gone well and fast, but the last few weeks seem to be moving a little slower...Hopefully it will speed up! I only have two and a half weeks left at work so that should help a little.

Today also happens to be Mother's Day, we are so lucky to have such great mothers in our lives! They both did such an amazing job raising us and getting us ready to be parents. I feel so grateful to have a good relationship with both moms - neither is one of those "crazy" moms you want to avoid. They are both loving and I am excited to become a mother just like them.

Today was also a special day because my cousin that was due mid this week had her little girl today! What an awesome way to celebrate Mother's day. Congrats to Chelsey and Adam on their new addition!

Happy Birthday to Me

So last week I turned 23! Yay! And I feel old. Partly because I'm 8 months pregnant, and our baby is almost here! Because our little boy is almost here, my birthday was mostly getting things ready for baby. Which is okay with me because getting things for the nursery brings me so much happiness! Our baby's room is now my favorite room in our home, sometimes I just like to sit in there and think about the sweet moments I'll have rocking and soothing him, and changing his stinky diaper while he screams because he'll probably hate getting his diaper changed like most babies.

{On my birthday we went to Target and bought our stroller/carseat system for baby, we are waiting to put the carseat in the car until it gets closer to the due date.}
{JT let me order this changing table the week before my birthday,  I love it and it matches our crib!}
{This was my favorite. While we were in Washington I went to the outlet mall and stumbled across the Coach outlet that of course had diaper bags on sale. So JT let me get this one and I'm IN LOVE with it.}
{I also spent my birthday eating too many sweets...like this doughnut and some cookies my sister made me}
On my birthday JT took me to Olive Garden, a classic favorite of mine. While there we noticed our food was taking a little long to get us, but we just figured they were busy. After some time our food finally got to us, via the manager. Apparently something happened and they forgot about us or something, because he apologized and told us dinner was on the house. Happy birthday to me!

For a baby update, my birthday was the 34 week mark and I'm still healthy! I'm just getting more of the discomforts of late term pregnancy. Like hot flashes and the inability to do simple tasks without my big baby bump getting in the way. The nursery is almost finished, I just need to do some of the decor and finish re-doing the rocking chair.

Thank you to all my friends and family for the birthday wishes and gifts!
